1,500 outdoor cannabis plants seized by QLD police

Detectives from Tully Criminal Investigation Branch and the Major and Organised Crime Squad executed a series of search warrants in the Cassowary Coast area on July 16 as part of ongoing efforts to disrupt the production and supply of dangerous drugs.
At around 9.30am, a search of a Granadilla Road, El Arish address located over 1,500 cannabis plants, approximately five kilograms of dried cannabis, one unregistered and one unsecured firearm and other drug paraphernalia.
A 20-year-old local man was charged with one count each of producing dangerous drugs (cannabis), possessing dangerous drugs (cannabis), possessing anything used in the commission of crime defined in, possess drug utensils or pipes, possession of unregistered firearms (shotgun) and secure storage of weapons – licensee. A second warrant was executed at a Stoney Creek Road, Cardwell address. A 42-year-old Cardwell man was charged with one count each of possessing dangerous drugs (cannabis), producing dangerous drugs and possess property suspected of having been used in connection with the commission of a drug offence. It will be alleged officers located around 65 cannabis plants and approximately one kilogram of cannabis. Both men are scheduled to appear at the Tully Magistrates Court on August 15.
